Self Talk
The story
“Self Talk” is a conversation with myself during one of those nights where everything starts to blur together.
There’s a version of me that wants to get high, disappear, ignore everything I’m feeling and deal with the consequences tomorrow. Then there’s another version still in there trying to talk me through it. At first that voice is frustrated with me almost disgusted with what I’m doing to myself. But by the end, it changes. Instead of beating myself up, I’m reminding myself to breathe, remember what I still have, and make it to the morning.
That’s really what this song is about to me. Addiction can make you feel like you’re fighting somebody else, when sometimes the person you’re arguing with, running from, lying to and eventually trying to save is yourself.
“Everything pass, nothing last but the moment.”
