Promise
The story
“Promise” is about finding somebody who made peace feel possible.
For a long time I was used to love coming with chaos. I was used to drugs, pain, bad decisions and constantly feeling like something was missing. Then I found somebody who didn't magically fix everything, but stayed beside me while I started fixing myself.
She showed me that I deserved peace before I completely believed it myself.
That's why this song isn't me promising to be perfect. I can't promise that. It's me promising to keep trying, to stop repeating the things that hurt us, and to give her the same security she's given me.
I call her my president because she's more than somebody I love. She's my partner. Somebody I trust beside me while we're making decisions about our life, our family and where we're going next.
We've seen each other hurt. We've seen things not work. We've seen each other's flaws and still decided there was something here worth fighting for.
I used to have a lot of different ways to escape how I felt.
Now sometimes all I need is to hear her voice.
“We ain't perfect, but stick around — you'll see it's worth it.”
